Boerma Instituut - Legmeerdijk 227 Aalsmeer get directions
The international professional Dutch Floral Design course at the Boerma Instituut is an excellent base for anyone aiming at a professional career in floral design, like florists, arrangers, florist shopkeepers, and sellers in ambulant trade. More than that, it provides a splendid education for anyone who loves flowers and floral design and is even suitable for hobbyists who truly wants to learn all tricks of the trade. To take this professional course, no specific knowledge or experience is required.
At the Dutch Floral Design-professional course, you obtain all techniques and skills you need to produce high-quality floral design. You can participate without any prior experience with floral design; we teach you all basic technical skills. In other words, there are no special educational requirements.
What do you learn at the professional Dutch Floral Design (DFD) course?
The Dutch Floral Design-professional course focuses mainly on the practical aspects of floristry. However, we feel it is important to provide you with some theoretical knowledge. The theory classes cover the principles, materials knowledge, colour theory, wire techniques and styles and design.
A theory book will be supplemented to be reviewed at your own pace.
All the essential fundamentals
During the DFD Course you wil learn everything you need to know to be able to make all the different types of flower work as a florist. Hand tied, Bridal work, Funeral Work and Table decorations amongst others.
Differentiate yourself with quality
Because we lay such an emphasis on techniques, you will be able to make strong and long lasting flower arrangements. Allowing your future customers to enjoy your work for as long as possible. If you fully master all technical skills, you will be able to create all conventional arrangements.
In a short time frame
This course is set up to give an as complete as possible training in an as short as possible time frame. From experience, we know that by working together and giving our best effort, you will get great results. If you do not have the time to spend 5 weeks in one row, it's also possible to follow this course in seperate modules.
Since Floral Design is a practical craft, the more arrangements you make, the better and faster you become. This is why you often have homework assignments. This will ensure you to get more experience, more routine and -maybe most imporantly- more confidence in your work. The more you practice, the easier it will be.

In the Spring DFD course we visit the Keukenhof. In the Autumn DFD course we visit Fleuramour.
Homework: practice is important!
During the classes of Boerma Instituut, we teach you all necessary techniques and skills. However, you also have to learn to work with a certain degree of speed. This means that you will have to practice a lot. To facilitate this, we provide you with homework. We recommend to try to at least repeat every design once during the course.
To be able to practice the different arrangements you don’t have to purchase expensive materials. During the course, we will provide tips and tricks on that. Materials for home assignments are not included with the course fee. Materials such as foam, wire, tape, etc. can be purchased at our little shop, or online at www.floraldesignsupplies.com.
