Funeral Work Courses
By popular demand, Boerma Instituut organises two times a year, a two day course on ‘Funeral arrangements’.These arrangements often provide florists and undertakers, with a fine source of income.

The techniques for this sort of arrangement have to be taught and are not unique, so it can be used in other arrangements as well, for instance: table arrangements, simple car decorations, wall and venue decorations.

These two day professional courses are not only suitable for (former) students, but also for florists and/or their employees, who want to do a short practical (reminder) course to learn some extra techniques, or to repeat them.
Funeral Work Course One in June
The contents of the two day course in June is as follows:

Day 1 In the morning we start with some theory, then practice a hand tied Biedermeier bouquet, after which the same materials are used to make a classic teardrop funeral arrangement on a self-made base.

In the afternoon we make our own Latin cross by using laths, nails, a saw and a hammer. After which, this cross is ‘wrapped’ in sphagnum-moss and plastic tape. In this moss we then place various plants ( roots attached ) and flowers, during which the left over pieces of the cross are covered and finished with bun-moss, bark, slate, ribbon and a variety of foliage.
Day 2 In the morning we will make a modern linear funeral arrangement, on a Oasis® Florette base. This modern shape can also be found in our ‘Hand tied bouquet’ course, when we make a linear hand tied bouquet. This (back then still parallel- ) tied bouquet is the original form for the hand tied bridal and funeral bouquets, and the modern day funeral arrangement in oasis®

In the afternoon we work in groups on a bigger theme arrangement, that could be used as a floral coffin-cover. The whole creation is arranged in a long, self-made Oasis® base.
