Advanced Dutch Floral Design Course (ADFD)
Once a year Boerma Instituut starts again with the Advanced Dutch Floral Design Course. As our students of the DFD Course already know, there is much more to learn about flowers and design than they have learnt so far.

Probably you will realise -just like we do- that you will never be finished learning about floral design and that it can give you great pleasure, either as a hobby or as a profession.

This continuation of the DFD Course is a very nice Advanced Dutch Floral Design Course (ADFD) of 20 lesson days in total.

A few arrangements in the schedule will be a repetition -with different materials- of the items that you have already learnt at Boerma Instituut and which you still should control.

Included in the Course fee:
All flowers, leaves, tools and other materials;
Professional tools like a knife and a pair of scissors;
Lesson book and leaflets with information;
Coffee, tea and lunches inclusive soft drinks;
Boerma Instituut Dutch Advanced Floral Design Diploma;
Silver Boerma flower after passing examination.
NOT included in the Course fee:

Our Students say
'
This advanced course was a very useful replenishment to the basic professional course. It is a good base to start to work from'. Annemarie Becu, Hardinxveld-Giessendam, Holland www.bloemverwerking.nl

'I think it was very good that my mother did this course also.she has learned a lot'. according to Elise Becu (Annemarie's daughter)

'
The course was good. It was more flexible for students to do more work because it was an advanced course. Teachers were so good and we learned a lot from them. I hope to see them at the Master Course'. Mohamed Al Yahyai, Oman.

Dear Boerma family and all the nice people who help, you make this institute so special. I learned so much about flower arranging but maybe as important as that, I learned a lot about my self. You all helped me to find my self and now I know I can be proud of my self. It means so much for me! Thank you also for the special care, the personal care for me but also for all the members of my group. I’m glad I did this course too. Now I understand why I had to do the first six weeks. Thank you so much. I have to practice, i know but I know I can do it. I love you all.
I stop now or I will start crying
’. Love, Louky, Assen, Holland.

If you are in love with life, then you are in love with flowers as well !
These three weeks have been very stressful for me... I just wanted to bring my inner self out. I think I managed. This is the correct place to be… if you want to meet your bigger expectations. It is a battle with yourself. Don’t think, just do it !
’.Sophie Ioannou, Unico Fiori (flower shop).Cyprus.

'I learned new things and new techniques that I did not know before'.
Waleed Al Azri, Oman.

A wonderful nurturing environment in which to learn new techniques and to broaden your ‘floristry horizons. Thank you to the team at ‘Boerma’. My only suggestion is that it would be nice to buy our own flowers and sundries sometimes to work with’.Mark (one of the teachers) insisted I make a suggestion.
Cheers,
Jill Cavanaugh, Perth, Australia

On top of that there will be a great number of new arrangements, techniques and materials during the ADFD course, like::

Greek laural wreath
This classical Greek and Roman victory wreath is made on a background you can make yourself. Therefore this wreath is not a funeral wreath; but a celibration wreath.

Car decoration
A large scale decoration, and at the same time a good opportunity to work as a team in which consultation is very important. Don’t forget your raincoat and camera.

Room decorations and hanging floral objects

Combination of flowers, vegetables and fruit
By incorporating everything in groups and blocks of colour it is possible to build up an attractive colourful design.

Creative Plant Design

Different kinds of bridal bouquets like: Linear, Cascade, Bouquet a la Wally Klett and a Pomander bridal bouquet;

Classical arm bouquet: this looks deceptively simple but proves to be quite challenging! The bouquet is not carried in the hand, but placed on the arm. Pieter Boerma (the first generation) made this sort of bouquet for Queen Astrid of Belgium on behalf of Queen Wilhelmina in 19234 on the occasion of the opening of the Albert Canal.

Corsages on a frame of wires, it is possible to make very beautiful buttonholes. When you master the techniques, you automatically start to enjoy it!

Theoretical lessons like knowledge about floral materials and table etiquette.

and much more!

We believe that after joining this Advanced Dutch Floral Design Course you will have more self-confidence. Hopefully you realize, like we do, that learning never stops in ‘our line of duty’, it can give you a lot of pleasure and satisfaction, for hobby or profession.

After passing the examination of this course there is also the possibility to join the Master in Dutch Floral Design (MDFD) course, where a big part of the lessons will be given by famous floral designers..

Certificates, Examination and the Diploma
If you don’t want to do an examination, you will receive a certificate of participation at the end of the course.

During the examination, every candidate must make two arrangements. These are announced before the preparation day for the examination, when the Boerma Instituut makes a choice from the
following subjects:
Table decoration;
Bridal bouquet;
Buttonholes;
Decorating an object;
Hand-tied bouquet.

These arrangements are assessed by three experts for their shape, lasting qualities, creativity and technique.
