Taxi from Schiphol airport to the boarding house is not included. When you take a taxi, please look at Schiphol plaza map where the taxi parking is.
Important
Do NOT except offers from men who are waiting at the gates and who offer you a taxi ride. They are not real taxi drivers and they overcharge.
Insist on a receipt with the taxi company name on it or ask the price BEFORE you get in. It should not be more then 30 euros for the ride to Aalsmeer.
Bedroom
Several host family’s in Aalsmeer have been doing this for years for our students, and with full satisfaction from all the participants, the student, the host(ess) and the Boerma Instituut.
At the boarding house, the student can count on a comfortable bedroom, equipped with a table and a chair, so that the students can do some homework or maybe write a letter home.
Use of the kitchen
In some boarding houses you are can prepare your own dinner, and in other houses you can eat with the family for a small compensation.
Use of the bedroom:
Which can mean that you can tidy up your own, or it is done the hostess. You can always ask for a vacuum cleaner if necessary. Once a week sheets will be replaced.
Use of the bathroom
No need to bring your own bathroom towels. They will be available. Size can differ in each boarding house.
Most bathrooms have a shower and a washing-basin, a bath is usually not available in this area.
Breakfast
Breakfast is also included in the boarding house fee, but the boarding house rules on this can differ on this:
Some boarding house ladies will tell you where you can find the ingredients for breakfast, others will put it on the table for you or even set the table.
Different nationalities, bring different customs. For instance, in Japan they ‘do the dishes’ and bathing rituals in a different way then we do here in Holland. Every country has their own customs and it is nice to see how they can be combined in the boarding houses. Link to a website with Dutch customs / habit
What is included and what not?
Meeting
There was a meeting with the boarding house family’s, just before the summer holiday. It was good and fun to hear how ideas were exchanged about different house rules. Everybody has a different point of view on different matters, for the students and for the host family’s.
Questions like:
For instance, can the washing machine be used individually by students or does the laundry go together with the rest of the family’s?
Are students allowed to prepare their own dinner, if so, how extensive?
Can students have their dinner (for a small compensation) with the family?
Sometimes student cook for their hosts or fellow students something traditional from their home country. Further more, it’s in everyone’s interest to talk these things through properly, so that everyone knows what to do and what not.

(the organisation for entry into the Netherlands) and you must meet the certain conditions.
If you plan to stay for a longer period then 3 months, make shore that your application if filled in months before your trip.
It takes on average 3 to 6 months before you are advised whether you can collect your MVV.
You will normally receive the decision regarding your application for a residence permit within 6 months.
